ART NIGHT JUNE 2019

For Art Night 2019, the Constellations group wer asked to create a participatory event in ‘Gas Holder Park’; a former gas holder which acts as a private-public space between two luxury flats in Granary Square, owned by Argent, a luxury property developer, and watched over by Argent LLP security - recently the subjects of a scandal regarding their use of facial recognition technology. We the group decided we would not be able to conduct an authentic act of participation on this site, nor did we wish to decorate a privatised space with social practice.

We ‘abandoned’ the site and invited the public to join us at The Cock Tavern - a local Irish pub with a history of hosting activist meetings - for drinks on us, and conversations about public/private space.

Constellations is an artist development programme produced by UP Projects in partnership with Flat Time House. The programme supports artists interested in socio-political issues, community-oriented practice or public contexts to refine existing approaches, or propose new models for collaboration and co-creation.
